Four stats that will make you rethink your budget…Let’s talk!

As you’re sitting down at the kitchen table, staring at a pile of bills, you realize you don’t have enough money to pay them all. We’ve all encountered this unpleasant experience. Now comes the big decision, who gets paid right away and what bills will have to wait? Thoughts like “I’m going to get hit with a late fee” or “I hope this doesn’t hurt my credit” may be swirling around in your mind. You may have a hard time sleeping at night and even find yourself worrying about it while at work. You’re not alone!

Recently, the National Credit Union Foundation published some troubling survey results:

  • 79% of Americans report that personal finances keep them awake at night.
  • 76% live paycheck to paycheck (30% of the people earn more than $100,000/year).
  • 46% of respondents say they either could not cover an emergency expense costing
$400, or would cover it by selling something or borrowing money.
  • 28% report that issues with personal finances have been a distraction at work.

The bottom line could have several negative impacts from a decrease in workplace productivity to a strain on family relationships and resources. Because there is a substantial need for more financial education, New Dimensions FCU has developed a hearty financial tool to assist you and your family in setting viable yet realistic financial goals.

This is where I get excited to announce that we have launched a new lunchtime financial series – Eat, Learn & Prosper, a free series offered to local businesses in Kennebec and Somerset counties. With just a phone call or an email, we could be delivering a delicious lunch to your workplace while teaching you and your coworkers how to create an effective monthly budget, how to keep your credit in good standing, best practice car buying tips, and more! We can even customize a presentation based on your needs.  Financial education is a priority and our promise to you because we STRONGLY believe in educating our members and people in our community.

If you would like us to bring the Eat, Learn & Prosper series to your workplace, tell your employer about this great, FREE benefit and have them contact me at tverzoni@newdimensionsfcu.com or (207) 313-5924.
